Plays

In the past two weeks, I've seen three plays. Bye Bye Birdie, Les Miserables, and Aida. Bye Bye Birdie was preformed by the Howard County Summer Theater, Les Mis by Toby's, and Aida by Blake High School. All three of them were just summer things, and all three were very enjoyable :). I already wrote a bit about Bye Bye Birdie. But I saw Les Mis this Friday, and Aida this Saturday, so I'll talk a bit about those.

Les Mis is an opera, my favorite opera as a matter of fact. Not that I've seen very many. I've seen maybe three or four. Les Mis is certainly a sad play, (thus the name The Miserable Ones in French) but I thououghly enjoy watching it every time I see it (which is twice). In it, Jean Valjean is a convict who is released from prison. He gets himself in trouble again, and is on the run for twenty years throughout the play. He ends up having to take care of a small girl named Cosette, who he takes care of for ten years, until she grows up and meets Marius. The two fall in love instantly. Eponine, who knew Cosette as a child, loves Marius as well, and would do anything for him, including sparing her own life. Anyway, there's much more detail than that, and many more characters. I love the play very, very much, and I commend it to anyone who's interested :).

Aida is a musical, thought not singing 24/7 like Les Mis. It is about a female, Nubian warrior named Aida. She's the daughter of the Nubian King and Queen, and a leader of her people. Nubia is at war with Egypt, and Aida gets captured by the Egyptians and put into slavery. Radames, captain of the Egyptian army, takes a liking to her and gives her to his betrothed, the princess Amneris. Little does he know that she is the Nubian princess. Radames and Aida eventually fall in love, and end up getting themselves buried in a tomb together at the end. It wasn't particularly sad, since they died together, but it was an interesting twist to a Disney story. The girl who played Aida in Blake's production of it was fantastic, and the Pharoh was pretty awesome too ;).

So, I like plays. Operas. Musicals. A lot :). I love watching other people act. I imagine myself up there with them, and it makes me want to do the play rather badly. It's strange not being in a play for so long. Just yesterday was our rehearsal for Midsummer Night's Dream, and it was tons of fun :). I can't wait to preform it this Friday as Hermia. We're preforming this Tuesday as well. Florence Bain Senior Center: 5470 Ruth Keeton Way Columbia MD 21044 is the address for the showing I'm in (call 410.313.7214 to reserve tickets), and Ellicott City Senior Center: 9401 Frederick Road Ellicott City, MD 21043 is for the one on Tuesday (410.313.1400). They are both at 10:30 in the morning, and I'd love it and appreciate it if you could make it :). Can't wait!
