Independence Day

Well. Today is the 4th of July! WOOT! Independence Day. I think I'll remember this July 4th for years to come. For one thing, it is a glorious 73 degrees outside, with a cool, soft breeze and a blue sky. Clouds, impending in their magnificence, threaten to cover the sun, but I doubt they'll succeed. Today is the day of independence, justice, and freedom, and no measly, insignificant clouds are going to diminish our spirits.

Patrick Henry, one of America's founding father's and a remarkable leader during the American Revolution once said, "Give me liberty or give me death."

What a line.

I watched the movie Gettysburg last night. It's an incredible movie, I most certainly recommend it. Even though the Battle of Gettysburg was fought during the Civil War and not the Revolutionary War, we thought it was appropriate to watch at the beginning of July, since that's when the Battle of Gettysburg takes place. The Battle of Gettysburg is considered the bloodiest battle ever fought on American soil. This movie wasn't terribly bloody though, for which I was grateful ;). Colonel Chamberlain is now officially my hero... once you watch this movie, you realize just how brave he was, along with the hundreds of others in that battle. Watching this movie also made me feel a certain spirit. Really, this film makes you feel rather inspired.

"Give me liberty or give me death."

Whew. That gives me a little jolt every time I hear it.

Well. Enough liberty talk. This afternoon, I'm heading on over to the Reichards for a 4th of July party. Boy am I excited :). I can't wait to see everybody. And to swim, and just hang out. What fun :D Anyway. Take this day to appreciate your blessings. I know that's normally with Thanksgiving and stuff, but the whole point of the 4th of July is to celebrate our independence. So I hope everyone has a wonderful July 4th :). I hope everyone has time to celebrate. And to praise God, from whom all blessings flow. :)
