Thunderstorm

HEY! First post ;) So, a few days ago, I wrote an essay for my dad called, "Thunderstorm". Little did I know that it rained like crazy that very night! And the next day! Of course, it's been raining almost non-stop lately, here in the "boonies" of Olney, Maryland. I left out a part or two, but... Anyway, here's my "essay". Sorry for grammer blunders ;)

The Clouds are joining. Collecting, forming together. They are still white, but they grow darker every minute. A bit of blue peeps throught the clouds, only to show itself for one second before it disappears again behind the vast blanket of clouds that cover the azure sky.

I watch from my bedroom window. I observe the world before me. Everything is gray. Everything is glowing. The calm before the storm.

The wind is stirring. It tickles the grass and the leaves on the trees. The tickle turns into a breeze; the breeze turns into a gust. The wind is blowing, swirling, harder and harder, so that the trees look as if they are dancing.

I see a swallow flying through the wind, searching for safety. The wind, now churning as if the whole world is being shoved and shaken, surrounds the bird. Gust after gust of wind forces the swallow back; but this bird is fearless. As fearless as the wind itself. It finally finds cover inside a bush the size of a small tree. It is protected, for now.

There is no doubt about it now; a storm is brewing. The world has finally grown dark, dark as night. A small prickle of fear grasps my heart, but I continue to watch from my bedroom window; watch as things start getting wilder and wilder.

Then, I hear it. A soft rumble in the distance; a sound that cannot be mistaken for anything else. Thunder. I imagine it growing and expanding, coming nearer and nearer to where I sit.

Suddenly, the world is ablaze with light; a brilliant flash, so quick, I almost think I imagine it. But no; it happens again, with another roar of thunder, closer and louder this time.

The storm continues to build; the trees are thrashing, the world is shaking, the clouds are booming. The thunder has changed; instead of a rumble in the distance, it is now an explosion; it claps its hands together, as if applauding the storm, urging it on.

Then, finally, comes the rain. It comes suddenly and abruptly, drenching everything within seconds. It first comes straight down, as rain should. The rain pitter-patters onto the roof above me, and the street below. And as I watch the rain come down, splattering on the pavement, I realize it's a waltz. The rain is dancing on the pavement, dancing around and around and around. Everything is churning and moving, always moving. I imagine that the rain drops are fairies, diving by using their wings towards the street. The moment they crash against the pavement, they begin their dance. They step and twirl and prance about; the greatest ball of all time.

My eyes are wide, and I watch, still as a statue, as the whole world shakes.

And then, suddenly, it's over. The wind dies down; the rain turns into soft drizzle and begins to cease altogether. The clouds grow lighter and lighter until they begin to fade completely.

The sun bursts through the thin layer of clouds, and the sky turns blue again. Only a few clouds are left over to provide the evidence that a storm had ever taken place. The grass, trees, and pavement glisten in the sun.

The swallow cautiously hops out from under its hiding spot. The coast is clear. It spreads its wings and takes flight, soaring away into the clear blue sky.

I stand up, stretch, and smile. The world is at peace, and so am I.

What do you think? Comments are appreciated. It was a little hard to imagine, since a storm wasn't even occuring at the moment... but I liked the challenge of imagining I was actually there, at my bedroom window, watching the storm, not at my computer watching the screen. Well, that's my all time first post! :D I'll try and write more and more. It is my favorite thing to do, after all...

Ohhh Grace I love it!
I really like your writing style, it's very captivating but still easy to read. The line "It first comes straight down, as rain should" made me smile :). Awesome job! :D
